Breakouts and Fine Lines at the Same Time? You’re Not Alone
When we surveyed our customers this year, one combination came up again and again:
“Acne prone in my 40s worse than it was in my teens!”
“Ageing skin with a touch of breakouts thrown in for fun.”
“Having wrinkles but still getting acne.”
If this sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone.
It can feel confusing when your skin is dealing with congestion and blemishes while you’re also starting to notice fine lines, dryness or changes in texture.
The answer isn’t necessarily two completely different routines.
Start with one gentle base routine
Rather than trying to tackle everything at once, start with a simple routine that keeps your skin feeling clean, comfortable and hydrated.
Think:
Cleanser → Moisturiser → SPF
Then, once that feels settled, you can add one targeted product based on what your skin needs most.
Keeping things simple also makes it much easier to understand what your skin actually likes.
Be gentler than your instincts might tell you
When breakouts appear, the instinct can be to scrub, exfoliate or remove as much oil as possible.
But if your skin already feels dry, tight or sensitive, doing too much can make it feel even more uncomfortable and can make texture look more noticeable.
Choose a cleanser that leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean... not tight or stripped.
Don’t skip moisturiser
One of the biggest misconceptions around blemish-prone skin is that moisturiser will automatically make things worse.
Hydration still matters.
The key is finding a texture that feels comfortable for your skin. If rich creams feel too heavy, look for something lighter that still gives your skin the hydration it needs.
Our Balancing Probiotic Moisturiser was created for skin that wants hydration without a heavy feel, making it an easy option to explore if your skin feels like it sits somewhere in the middle.

Choose your extras carefully
If you want to add a serum or treatment step, try introducing one thing at a time.
Ingredients such as niacinamide and hydrating serums can fit comfortably into many routines, depending on your skin and what you’re trying to support.
The goal isn’t to build the longest routine possible.
It’s to choose products that make sense together and that you’ll actually use consistently.
Don’t overload your skin
Using multiple strong actives at once can make it difficult to know what is helping and what your skin may not be enjoying.
If you use exfoliating acids, vitamin A products or other stronger actives, consider spacing them out rather than layering everything together.
And if your skin is already feeling irritated, that may be a sign to simplify your routine for a while.
Makeup can stay simple too
If you’re wearing makeup over areas of texture or congestion, lighter layers can often look more natural than trying to completely cover everything.
Start with a small amount of foundation, build only where you want extra coverage and avoid repeatedly layering product over the same area.
The goal is comfortable, breathable-looking coverage, not hiding every little thing.
Give your routine time
Changing several products every few weeks makes it almost impossible to know what is actually working for you.
Introduce changes gradually and give your routine time to settle before making another one.
Consistency is usually much more useful than constantly starting again.
When it’s worth speaking to a professional
If your breakouts are persistent, painful, cystic, worsening or leaving significant marks, it’s worth speaking with a GP or dermatologist.
Skincare can support how your skin feels and looks, but it isn’t a substitute for professional medical advice when something more persistent is going on.
Not sure where to start?
This is exactly the kind of skin combination where guessing can feel overwhelming.
Our team can help you simplify your routine and work out which products make sense for your skin, without adding steps you don’t need.
