Everything You Need To Know About Lust Tanning Mousse
We are so drawn to that gorgeous sun-kissed glow of a natural tan. That golden glow gives the illusion of being healthier & I know I feel slimmer when tanned up!
However, exposure to the suns and artificial (think tanning beds) UV rays increases our risk of skin cancer, eye problems and premature ageing of the skin {{GASP}}.
UV damages the collagen fibers and destroys vitamin A in our skin which leads to accelerated ageing ie. Deep and superficial wrinkles, leathery skin, liver spots, actinic keratosis and solar elastosis (yellow, thickened skin).
Don’t get me wrong, the sun does have its benefits. The main being Vitamin D - which is an essential vitamin for our bones & mood. So please don’t avoid the sun altogether. BUT, there is absolutely no doubt that getting a tan from a bottle is safer, healthier and better for you than baking in the sun.
However, that’s where we face the next hurdle - finding a self tan that:
1. Is a natural colour and doesn’t turn you into an Oompa Loompa over night (that look can stay in the 90’s!) and
2. Isn’t filled with parabens, sulphates, DEA & petrochemicals, which is the majority of beauty products on the market.
As you know, at Lust we believe in keeping the health of our skin and body top priority when developing products, so naturally when we set out to create a self tan, we put our research into each ingredient. The formulation of our Tanning Mousse is a cleaner alternative to cheap chemical filled products. We have used premium ingredients that we ourselves are confident to put on our own bodies.
The active ingredient in the Lust tanning mousse is Dihydroxyacetone. It sounds scary, but this ingredient is actually derived from sugar cane and sugar beets through a fermentation process. When DHA reacts with the amino acids in the first few layers of the skin it creates a browning effect that is non toxic, safe and a temporary way to get a sunless tan! It naturally fades or can be exfoliated off when you’re ready to re-apply.
To keep your skin hydrated during and after the tanning process, the combination of Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Theobroma Cacoa Extract and Syzygium Leuhmanii Fruit Extract hydrates, protects, soothes and nourishes.
Benzyl Alcohol is used to keep our products safe from bacteria. In correct low concentration, this safe preservative keeps organic and natural skincare products bacteria free.
Our Colouring agents (Cl42090, Cl1470, Cl9140) are all FDA approved, non toxic and safe.

So now we understand the ‘WHY’ behind Self Tanning we are up to the fun bit, the ‘HOW’!
Follow this easy tutorial for a beautiful, streak free, bronze GLOW!
- Start by giving your skin a full exfoliation. By scrubbing away the dead skin, we get a smoother and more even base to apply the mousse. Using an exfoliating glove in the shower or bath, start at your toes and work your way up in small circles until you’ve done your full body. Jump out and get dry! Remember not to use moisturiser.
- Pop your clean tanning mitt on your hand, add a pump of mousse and buff into your skin. I personally prefer to work in sections up my body - lower leg + foot, thigh, 6 pack (haha, I wish!) etc.
- Once you’ve done your entire body, wait for your skin to be touch-dry before popping on some loose fitting clothing.
- Go about your day/night for 4-8hrs, depending on the depth of tan you’re wanting to achieve. Avoid water until you’re ready to rinse!
- Shower off the excess product, you’re skin is now Golden and Gorgeous!!
Although the tanning mousse is filled with nourishing ingredients to keep your skin hydrated, we till strongly recommend you continue to lather your body with moisturiser at least twice a day to extend the life of your tan.
